Every year Wordfest provides a variety of opportunities for young people to experience the power of story at the Festival.

Through First Calgary Financial Book Rapport, Wordfest brings writers from across Canada and around the world in contact with young readers at fun, educational events that promote a love of reading and a deeper appreciation of the written word. The 19th Annual Wordfest runs October 14-19, 2014, in Calgary and the Bow Valley.

Participants encounter funny stories, sad stories and stories that take place nearby or in distant lands. They sing songs, write poetry, paint pictures, and share ideas with children, teenagers and adults. From picture books and children’s fiction to young adult literature and graphic novels, Wordfest introduces young audiences to the power of storytelling as it unfolds within a variety of genres, forms and media.

The youth program presents authors and illustrators working in a variety of languages including English, French and Spanish.
