Understanding Mental Health with Wesley King

The discussion surrounding mental health awareness is of prime importance in today’s day. And it is especially critical that today’s youth have a comprehensive understanding of the concept of mental health. It is for this reason that Wordfest Youth is incredibly excited to present Wesley King’s OCDaniel at the 2016 Festival. King’s OCDaniel  is an incredibly relevant young-adult novel, which tells the story of, Daniel, a boy who is dealing with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). OCDaniel has garnered positive praise for its ability to portray a child’s experience dealing with a mental health disorder. CBC Books listed it as one of their “12 Canadian Books That Describe Living with Mental Illness”.

King will be presenting at Wordfest with Stacey Matson on October 12th, 2016; he is also available for in-school events. OCDaniel serves as the perfect introductory piece for a discussion of youth mental health and the importance of self-acceptance.  Check out  CBC Books’ article on Wesley King as he poignantly describes his experience dealing with OCD and his inspiration for OCDaniel!
