The Legend of Bobby Bird

ARCHIVE – Art Bergmann

Art Bergmann is an iconoclastic singer-songwriter, one of the leading figures of the Canadian alternative music scene beginning in 1979 with his band the Young Canadians. John Cale of The Velvet Underground produced Bergmann’s critically acclaimed first solo record, Crawl With Me (1988,) and Bergmann’s next album, Sexual Roulette (1990), became his mainstream breakthrough with the hit single,”Bound for Vegas,”  Bergmann’s 1995 album, What Fresh Hell Is This?, won a Juno Award for Best Alternative Rock Album and he released a few more albums before abandoning the music industry in 2007. Bergmann was lured back to the stage in 2009 with sold-out performances in Vancouver, Calgary and Toronto, which led to the creation of a four-song EP, Songs for the Underclass (2014).  Fans and media immediately embraced it, producing more sold-out shows and renewed interest in his career. Bergmann is currently recording songs with producer Lorrie Matheson at Arch Audio in Calgary for his next album, The Apostate, due out in early 2016.
