Rae Spoon is an award-winning Canadian songwriter and author. Their first book, First Spring Grass Fire, was a finalist for a Lambda Award and was shortlisted for an Expozine Alternative Press Award. In the spring of 2014, Spoon was awarded an Honour of Distinction by the Dayne Ogilvie Prize, presented by the Writers’ Trust of Canada. Spoon’s second book, co-written with Ivan Coyote and titled Gender Failure, is on its fifth pressing. The book was on the 2015 Over The Rainbow Reading List and was translated into German.

The How To Be Series

Dada meets the For Dummies book franchise in The Kolakovsky Press of Canada’s How To Be series of instructional booklets with illustrations. Launched in 2006 with singer-songwriter Geoff Berner’s How to be an Accordion Player, the series has expanded to include Kris Demeanor’s How to be an Asshole of Calgary, Carolyn Mark’s, How To Be A Boozy Chanteuse and the just-published How to (Hide) Be(hind) Your Songs by Rae Spoon. You’ll want to collect them all!
