Musharraf Ali Farooqi

Musharraf Ali Farooqi (PAK/CAN) is an author, novelist and translator born in Hyderabad, Pakistan. Farooqi’s most recent novel, Between Clay and Dust, was short-listed for The Man Asian Literary Prize in 2012 and long-listed for the 2013 DSC Prize for South Asian Literature. The novel, which Farooqi will present at Wordfest, is about a once-great wrestler, named Ustad Ramzi, who was famed and adored for his enormous strength and unmatched technique. In addition to adult novels, Farooqi also writes children’s literature, including Pakistan’s first English-language novel for children and critically acclaimed translations of Urdu classics. Currently, Farooqi divides his time between Toronto and Karachi, Pakistan.
