Emma Donoghue brings her prodigious gift of lighting up forgotten corners of history in this evening of conversations and larger-than-life tales from Frog Music—a crime story about free-love bohemians, desperate paupers, arrogant millionaires, jealous men and icy women. Hosted by Jennifer Keene. Cash-bar reception at 5pm. (90 minutes)
Frog Music by Emma Donoghue is set in the summer of 1876 when San Francisco is in the fierce grip of a record-breaking heatwave and a smallpox epidemic.
In thrilling, cinematic style, Frog Music digs up a long-forgotten, never-solved crime. Full of songs that migrated across the world, Emma Donoghue’s lyrical tale of love and bloodshed among lowlifes captures the pulse of a boom town like no other.
