Four distinct writers draw on their respective backgrounds in philosophy, poetry and aboriginal leadership as they discuss the themes of trauma and recovery that underpin each of their books.
One Hour in Paris is philosopher Karyn L. Freedman’s powerful memoir revisiting a Paris night in 1990 when she was twenty-two and, in one violent hour, her life was changed forever by a brutal rape.
Up Ghost River: A Chief’s Journey Through the Turbulent Waters of Native History by Edmund Metatawabin is raw yet eloquent memoir from a residential school survivor and former First Nations Chief.
In Between Dreams by Iman Verjee is an emotionally explosive novel about a young girl entering adulthood under the smoky weight of a terrible family secret; of a life stolen and rediscovered and the fluid, easily traversed boundary between perversity and normality.
Open Letter: Woman Against Violence Against Women by poet Sheri-D Wilson is an evocative book that binds the ancient past with the distant future—by reclaiming the present.
