This charming patchwork expands the scope of fashion writing by looking not at forerunners of style but at how those outside the industry think about what they wear—Boston Globe
Drawing on conversations and ideas from over six hundred contributors to Women in Clothes, from mothers and athletes to artists and critics, this brave event with Sheila Heti and Leanne Shapton explores how women present themselves through clothes, and what style really means.
Bring up to five articles of clothing to swap with fellow guests at this interactive evening. Read below for more details.
Sheila Heti recently published the novel How Should a Person Be? which was named a Best Book of the Year by The New York Times Book Review, The New Yorker, Salon and other places.
Leanne Shapton is a Canadian illustrator, author and publisher based in New York City. She is the co-founder of J&L Books, and a former art director of Saturday Night Magazine and The New York Times Op-Ed page.
How does the Clothing Swap Work?
Arrive by 6pm and bring a maximum of 5 clean women’s clothing items in excellent condition to participate in the swap. On the tags provided, write a brief description of the background of each garment and then affix the tags to your items for guests to see. Then browse and select from the racks of clothes contributed by others, sharing in their unique stories and experiences as “women in clothes.” Any leftover items will be donated to a local women’s organization.
