Wordfest is pleased to launch its inaugural Editor in Residence program in partnership with Calgary Association of Freelance Editors (CAFE). A rotating selection of professional editors from CAFE will be available to consult on the process of evaluating, editing, revising and improving written work.
The program runs from the beginning of March until April 30, 2014, and is open to the public, free of charge and by appointment only. Each Editor in Residence is prepared to discuss topics such as:
- General resources, tips and tools on improving written communication
- What “type” of editing and editor a manuscript may require
- General advice on the process of preparing and editing written work for publication.
Caralee Hubbell holds a BA in Fine Arts (Art History, with distinction) and a BA in Humanities (English). She has experience in-house as well as in the magazine world (Bloomsbury Publishing, WHERE magazine). As a freelancer, she has worked with authors on young adult fiction, campus fiction, romance novels, short stories, an urban fantasy novel series and literary works as well as a variety of non-fiction projects (e.g., film, cooking, fashion and travel). She is also comfortable working with academic material in Humanities, Fine Arts and Social Sciences. Caralee taught “Copyediting and Proofreading” at Mount Royal University in the 2014 winter session.
Catherine Leipciger has a BSc in Psychology (minor in Sociology) from the University of Calgary, and an MSc in Health Promotion Studies from the University of Alberta. She also completed the Professional Sequence in Editing certificate program through UC Berkeley. She is Managing Editor of the Clinical Journal of Sport Medicine, an international peer reviewed journal. Her position requires ongoing interaction with a variety of individuals, including authors, reviewers, editorial board members, and publishing personnel.
Raina Schnider completed Mount Royal University’s Professional Editing Extension Certificate and the University of Calgary’s Spanish Language and Culture Certificate after graduating from SAIT’s Civil Engineering and Technology program. She has studied writing and languages for over 10 years and has worked as a freelance writer/editor/translator, providing technical writing and editing for a variety of clients.
Donna-Lee Wybert holds two undergraduate degrees (in social work and in Fine Arts), and a Masters in Communication and Cultural studies, as well as a Professional Editing Certificate. She has experience editing in a variety of media, genres and subjects including Fiction (various genres), creative non-fiction, blog posts, trade non-fiction, art & culture, literature, art history, popular culture, film, entertainment, self-help & personal growth, memoir & biography, travel, community development and lifestyle writing.
