An unflashy, confident piece of work with startling depths, Lampedusa is a marvellous novel by one of the country’s most stimulating and talented authors. I loved this book.” — Michael Redhill

FESTIVAL BOOK

Lampedusa

Inspired by the real-life story of Giuseppe Tomasi, Lampedusa is an exquisite emotional force about love and art in the life of one of Italy’s greatest writers.

Set in a sun-drenched Sicily, among the decadent Italian aristocracy of the late 1950s, Lampedusa explores the final years of Giuseppe Tomasi, last prince of Lampedusa, as he struggles to complete his only novel, The Leopard. Adhering intensely to the facts of Lampedusa’s life, but moving deep into the mind of the author, Lampedusa inhabits the complicated heart of a man facing down the end of his life, and struggling to make something of lasting worth, while there is still time.

Achingly beautiful and elegantly conceived, Price’s new novel is an intensely moving story of one man’s awakening to the possibilities of life, intimately woven against the transformative power of a great work of art.
