What a Pair! David A. Robertson & Niigaan Sinclair
What a Pair! David A. Robertson & Niigaan Sinclair
It doesn’t get better than this. Two close friends talking about their writing processes, complicated relationships with complex fathers, reinventing Marvel comics and the graphic novel, what’s missing in journalism today, and why Indigenous authors from the prairies—or rather Wînipêk—are leading the way for Canadian literature. Oh, and they spill the tea on why you really don’t want to play poker with Wab Kinew, the Premier of Manitoba.
The show featured in this podcast episode (recorded at the 2024 Imaginairium Festival) was presented in collaboration with the Canada Council for the Arts to celebrate the finalists and winners of the Governor General’s Literary Awards. Congratulations to Sinclair, the 2024 Non-Fiction Award winner for Wînipêk: Visions of Canada from an Indigenous Centre. We were thrilled to be able to showcase Sinclair and two-time GG winner (Young People’s Literature) Robertson. The show also highlighted Empty Spaces by Jordan Abel, which won the 2024 Award for Fiction.
Every year, 14 winning books are selected by peer assessment committees across seven categories in both official languages for the Governor General’s Literary Awards.
