Ticket includes an intimate dinner with a menu inspired by celebrated writer Kim Thúy and a signed edition of her highly anticipated second novel, Mãn. Hosted by Gwendolyn Richards, Calgary Herald Food Writer.
Delight your culinary senses as Thúy, previous restaurant owner, farmer, seamstress, lawyer and Governor General Literary Award winner, describes a world where food and emotion entangle with dishes that are suffused with memory and emotion.
Culinary traditions are passed on secretly, like magic tricks between master and apprentice. – Kim Thúy from Mãn.
The evening’s menu draws on themes from Mãn and is created in collaboration with Chef Kenny of Workshop Kitchen+Culture, a new restaurant and beacon for the hungry, the thirsty and the adventurous at the storied Theatre Junction GRAND.
Each course is paired with a scene from Thúy’s new book and stories about the intricate relationship between love and food will be shared in mouth-watering detail.
In Thúy’s novel, Mãn discovers that she is a natural chef and quietly practices her art, with food as her medium. She creates dishes that are suffused with memory and emotion, that evoke place and time and that even bring her Montreal customers to tears.
Her first novel, Ru, fictionalized her family’s journey to Quebec and the discovery of their new environment. Since its release, the novel has been published in several languages and has won the Grand Prix RTL – Lire at the Salon du livre in Paris, and a Governor General’s Literary Award in 2010.
