How can war, a phenomenon of destruction, give rise to literature, an act of creation? Two novelists discuss and read from new novels whose main characters find their destinies deeply shaped by global conflict. Hosted by Jeet Heer, a Toronto based journalist who focuses on arts and culture.
Quartet for the End of Time by Johanna Skibsrud takes place in 1932 when America is roiling with unrest and World War One veterans, embittered by the Great Depression.
In Mãn, Kim Thúy’s highly anticipated second novel, Mãn has three mothers: the one who gave birth to her, the nun who took her in, and her beloved Maman, whose life was irrevocably upended by war.
