Poetry is like film; both are all about the image. So what can we learn from filmmaking to help us with our poems? This workshop is for newbies or oldies or in-betweeners. You will look at how objects make meaning and re-make it. You’ll turn familiar things strange and strange things familiar. You’ll use image systems as transformers; metaphors as coded making. You’ll break normalcy into tiny little pieces and feed them to the birds. (See? Images are code-makers!)
Whether you’re at the basic premise stage or have a complete first draft, this workshop is for you. How does a story move? Is a detailed outline really necessary? How much do you need to know before you sit down and write? This one-hour workshop with Giller nominee Elisabeth de Mariaffi covers plot, pacing, and story propulsion. Avoid the dreaded mid-novel slump! Bring a pen, paper, and questions.
