Wordfest is Seeking Volunteer Drivers for the 20th Festival

Volunteer Festival Drivers—Position Description

Wordfest works with approximately 200 volunteers every year. Volunteers assume a variety of roles that contribute to the success of the Festival, including working in teams during Wordfest and providing year-round support in the Wordfest office and at special events.

Wordfest is seeking daytime drivers to help transport the Festival’s artists and key personnel from the airport and safely to their events. The territory covered includes UofC, Calgary Airport, Inglewood, Calgary schools, the downtown core as well as the occasional out of town event.

We are looking for 15 to 20 volunteer drivers to cover day and evening transportation needs. Wordfest provides vehicles and covers fuel expenses.

About Volunteering as a Festival Driver

Volunteer drivers on the Transportation Team are responsible for providing safe, efficient and punctual services for Wordfest artists, as well as ensuring they are in the right place at the right time. Drivers report to volunteer transportation coordinator(s) who are responsible for scheduling and assigning trips.

The Transportation Team provides regular shuttle service for Wordfest artists between various venues including airports, hotels, theatres and schools, within and around Calgary.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

• attending the volunteer orientation meeting and other meetings as needed
• interacting with artists in a friendly, respectful and professional manner
• being punctual; refuelling and keeping the vehicules clean

Qualifications, abilities and skills:

• possess a valid drivers license (class 5) and a clean driving record
• be over 25 years or older
• be available for shift(s) of 4 to 6 hours during the festival (Oct. 13-18, 2015)
• should be familiar and comfortable with driving around the Calgary area, including freeways
• be a resourceful and courteous individual
• be able to deal effectively with staff, the public and artists
