ARCHIVE – Cybèle Young
Cybèle Young is an internationally renowned artist, represented by galleries in New York, London, Vancouver and Calgary. She studied sculpture and printmaking at the Ontario College of Art and Design, and has since been awarded over 20 arts grants and awards. Young creates miniature sculptural works from Japanese papers. What results are works that emerge from familiar motifs abstracted by passing impressions. Her art practice and family life have also inspired the creation of several children’s books. She was nominated for a Governor General’s Literary Award for Illustration in 2000, and has written and illustrated multiple books.
Festival Books
Cybèle Young will be presenting three of her works this festival. The Queen’s Shadow is a sly, colourful mystery that follows the Queen’s best detective, mantis Shrimp. In Some Things I’ve Lost, inanimate objects live and grow and vanish in this low text look into household living. Nancy Knows is the tale of forgetful elephant Nancy, who tries all she can to remember what she missed!
