ARCHIVE – Douglas Gibson
Douglas Gibson was born in Scotland before moving to Canada and entering the publishing industry. He worked his way from a Trainee Editor position with Doubleday Canada to President and Publisher of McLelland & Stewart during his decades-long career. Having primarily retired from publishing, Gibson dedicated his time to writing. His first book Stories About Storytellers is a recollection of his time working with Canadian authors. At Wordfest, he presents his second book, Across Canada by Story, a continuation of his experiences working in the publishing industry.
Across Canada by Story
Canada is a country rich in stories, and few take as much joy as Douglas Gibson in discovering them. As one of the country’s leading editors and publishers for 40 years, he coaxed modern classics out of some of Canada’s finest minds, and then took to telling his own stories. As a literary tourist, he discovered even more about the land and its writers, and harvested many more stories, from distant past and recent memory, to share.
