In-School Visits:

In-school visits are a one hour visit by the artist, usually held in the school’s gym or library. Depending on the age of the students, authors may read excerpts from their work, draw on-the-spot (if the author is also an illustrator), or explain their methods and inspirations.

If time permits, students may have the opportunity to meet the author personally and have books or bookmarks signed. If interested, please discuss this with us ahead of time.

Please note the following:

  • – The artist will be arriving at the school no less than five minutes before the scheduled event and must be welcomed by a designated school representative.
  • – Students must be seated in the venue before the scheduled start of the event so the artist can start on time.
  • – Educators should attend the event and are responsible for the students’ behaviour.
  • – The school representative should ensure that the artist leaves the school with the designated Wordfest transportation.

Answers to questions and more information regarding in-school visits will be given at the time of booking.

Public Events:

Public events are held in a theatre, where students will listen to two authors in an unforgettable live experience. Depending on the age of the students, events can run from 1 1/2 to 2 hours and usually consist of three parts:

  • (1) Author Presentation: 20-40 minutes per author. This may consist of the author reading from their work, as well as a discussion of inspirations and other aspects of their career.
  • (2) Question and Answer Period: 20 minutes. Moderated by the host of the event, authors will answer questions posed by students.
  • (3) Book Signing: 30 minutes. Students will then move to the foyer and have the opportunity to meet the authors and have books or bookmarks signed.

Please note the following:

  • – The school should arrange for transportation for the students, educators and volunteers. Bus zones for drop off/pick up are available near the theatre.
  • – The group should be at the threatre no less than 15 minutes before the scheduled start of the show.
  • – Wordfest volunteers and staff will welcome the school groups and will direct the seating procedures within the theatre.
  • – All students, educators and volunteers must be seated no less than five minutes before the start of the event.
  • – Educators attending the event are responsible for the behaviour of their students.

Answers to questions and more information regarding public events will be given at the time of booking.
