Congratulations to Thomas King and Marianne Dubuc
November 18, 2014 (Ottawa, ON) The Canada Council for the Arts announced today the 14 recipients of the 2014 Governor General’s Literary Awards (GG), and Wordfest 2014 artists are among the winners!
Thomas King, (Guelph, Ont.) won a GG award in the Fiction category for The Back of the Turtle (HarperCollinsPublishersLtd), which is his first literary novel in fifteen years, following the success of The Inconvenient Indian. At Wordfest 2014, he presented in Calgary and Banff with support from glasswaters foundation.
Marianne Dubuc, (Montreal) won a GG award in the Children’s Literature — Illustration category for Le lion et l'oiseau, (Les Éditions de la Pastèque). At Wordfest 2014, she presented to more than 500 students at schools in Calgary, Cochrane and Airdrie. Four schools attended her appearance alongside Anna Dewdney at the John Dutton Theatre, Calgary Public Library during the Festival. As part of the TD Family Literacy Series at Wordfest, Dubuc hosted a family literacy workshop geared to children (Kindergarten to Grade 3) and their caregivers.
