Wordfest Youth Announces Events in Theatres at Fall Festival

The following authors, poets, illustrators, script-writers and spoken word artists are presenting in theatres for Wordfest Youth at the Festival’s 20th anniversary celebrations, October 13-18, 2015. Le calendrier des événements de Wordfest jeunesse en français est ici.
Susin Nielsen and Trina St. Jean: Wednesday, October 14 • 10-11:45am: Being a teenager isn’t always easy; Susin Nielsen and Trina St. Jean know this. In their books the two authors capture the struggles two teens face in captivating and memorable ways. For grades 6 to 9.
Anne Villeneuve and Cybèle Young: Wednesday, October 14 • 10-11:30am: Not only do Anne Villeneuve and Cybele Young have their incredible illustration skills in common, but also they’re both Governor General Literary Award winners. The two author’s passion for illustration makes this a must-see presentation for picture book readers. For grades K-4.
Wordfest Presents Kenneth Oppel: Wednesday, October 14 • 12:30-2:15pm: Kenneth Oppel’s bestselling prose writing will inspire the audience to see all aspects of the power of story. For grades 4 to 7.
Linda Bailey and Mélanie Watt: Thursday, October 15 • 10-11:30am: Both artists are returning to Wordfest and once again will inspire young readers to harness their creativity when sharing their own stories. In each of their books, two very different protagonists look to fulfill their destiny. For grades 1 to 3.
Kevin Sands and Kevin Sylvester: Thursday, October 15 • 10-11:30am: Though they share a name, their books each share unique and incredible adventures. Kevin Sands and Kevin Sylvester both are successful fiction writers who can’t wait to present their newest novels at Wordfest.For grades 4 to 7.
David Robertson and Richard Van Camp: Friday, October 16 • 10-11:45am: David Robertson and Richard Van Camp both write graphic novels about the history of Aboriginal peoples in Canada. Their renowned public speaking skills and engaging personality of both presenters are sure to make their Wordfest appearance a memorable one. For grades 5 and up.
Wordfest Youth Presents Michel Chikwanine: Monday, October 19 • 10-11:45am: A former child soldier, Michel Chikwanine has already endured and overcome unimaginable pain and struggles. His passion and belief in the possibility for change makes him a truly remarkable individual and humanitarian. Today, Michel is an accomplished motivational speaker, addressing audiences across North America. He presents his debut children’s graphic novel, Child Soldier: When Boys and Girls Are Used in War.
