Theatre Junction Grand – Studio
$13 seniors, students and friends of CJSW
Featuring: Dennis Lee, Nikki Reimer, Lisa Robertson and Natalie Simpson
Celebrated page poets and storytellers from home and abroad use the stage as the page, transforming their readings into dramatically charged acts. Hosted by derek beaulieu.
Dennis Lee has been awarded many honours, including being a recipient of the Order of Canada and Toronto’s first Poet Laureate. At Wordfest, he presents the special 40th anniversary edition of Alligator Pie.
DOWNVERSE by Calgary artist Nikki Reimer soothes the oversaturated reader. A natural translator, Reimer writes for anyone who has felt overwhelmed by the phrase “never read the comments.”
Lisa Robertson was born in Toronto, lived in Vancouver for many years and has held residencies and visiting positions at Cambridge University, Princeton University, UC Berkeley, American University of Paris and the California College of the Arts. At Wordfest, the author presents her most recent collection of poems, The Cinema of the Present.
Natalie Simpson’s work has appeared in Queen Street Quarterly, dANDelion, West Coast Line and in the anthologies Post-Prairie and Shift & Switch. At Wordfest, the poet presents her second book of poetry, Thrum, told using tension between sound and meaning.
