2015 Wordfest Editor in Residence Program

Editors in Residence available from April 1 to April 30, 2015

Back by popular demand, Wordfest’s Editor in Residence program runs from April 1 to April 30, 2015. The program is open to the public, free of charge and by appointment only during Wordfest’s regular office hours: Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. The initiative is offered in partnership with the Calgary Association of Freelance Editors (CAFE).

A rotating selection of professional editors from CAFE will be available to consult for one-hour sessions about the process of evaluating, editing, revising and improving written work.

Each Editor in Residence is available to review a writing sample of no more than 1,250 words (e.g. 5 pages at 250 words per page). The sample could be part of a first chapter, an initial draft, a synopsis/outline or any other piece of writing of concern. The Editors in Residence are also prepared to discuss general topics such as:

  • • General resources, tips and tools on improving written communication
  • • What “type” of editing and editor a manuscript may require
  • • General advice on the process of preparing and editing written work for publication
  • • Strategies for developing an initial concept for a book or manuscript
