Staff Picks from Cassandra Paul

Cassandra-newCassandra Paul is the Festival’s Operations Coordinator who juggles a number of roles throughout the year and during Wordfest, from coordinating the logistics at the Festival’s many venues and theatres to managing special projects, box office and the Volunteer Reader Program.

When asked which two events she is most excited about at Wordfest 2014, it was hard to narrow down her selection at first.

I am definitely looking forward to “Readers Choice” because the favourite books I’ve read this year, For Today I am a Boy by Kim Fu and In Between Dreams by Iman Verjee, are being presented. It has been great to see volunteer reviews come in over the past 6 months and authors being handpicked from their feedback.

Cassandra is also hoping to check out Decomposure with Caitlin Doughty at the Glenbow during the Festival.

Her non-fiction book Smoke gets in your Eyes takes you behind the scenes into the life of a mortician. Doughty also founded The Order of the Good Death with the goal of bringing the discussion of death back to the forefront. A career in death is beyond fascinating to me and this is definitely a book I will be reading before the 2014 Festival.
