Wordfest Bids Adieu to FFWD Weekly

(Calgary, AB — Thursday, March 5, 2015) Calgary’s favourite alternative weekly published its last issue this week. The paper launched in 1995, a year before the inaugural Wordfest. They have been fiery champions of the city’s arts scene ever since and proud sponsors of the Festival.

The final issue features an official history of FFWD and is printed on higher quality paper as a keepsake. It contains an outpouring of support from local advertisers, businesses and organizations including Wordfest. Look for the Festival’s story branded “Thank You” spot in the March 5 issue, pictured below.

The largest impact of FFWD’s departure will be on the city’s arts reporting, the paper’s main focus, and Wordfest will miss its coverage of literary arts.

Fall issues of FFWD Weekly were often chock full of reviews of Festival books, interviews with Wordfest artists and coverage of the Festival’s events. Their unique voice in the media landscape helped Wordfest bring readers and writers together to experience the power of story over many years.

Readers are invited to celebrate FFWD’s legacy of supporting the arts with a contribution to Wordfest’s 20th Anniversary Fund, and to join us October 13-18, 2015. For more information about the upcoming Festival, please explore the links below.
