The Forgotten Girls

ARCHIVE – Sara Blædel

Sara Blædel has had her crime novels published worldwide. Born to a journalist and an actor in Denmark, her home life was a whirlwind of authors, writers and performers. Her literary career began when she started her own
publishing company, which led her to write her first novel, Green Dust. Her latest novel to hit Canadian shores is The Forgotten Girls. Known as the “Danish Queen of Crime,” she is famous for her recurring character Louise Rick, whose life is largely influenced by Blædel’s own experiences.

The Forgotten Girls

In a forest in Denmark, a ranger discovers the fresh corpse of an unidentified woman. A large scar on one side of her face should make the identification easy, but nobody has reported her missing to the media. The mystery deepens when an older woman phones to say that she recognizes the woman as Lisemette, a child she once cared for in the state mental institution many years ago. After four days, Louise Rick, the new commander of the Missing Persons Department, is still without answers. But when she releases a photo she discovers something disturbing: Lisemette had a twin, and both girls were issued death certificates over 30 years ago.
