An Evening with Douglas Stuart

Hosted by Omar El Akkad

Sep 29 @ 7 PM - 8:15 PM MT
Patricia A. Whelan Performance Hall, Central Library
800 3 Street SE

“I’m fascinated by tender souls trapped in hard places,” Douglas Stuart revealed in a recent interview. For those gobsmacked (in the best possible way) by Shuggie Bain, here’s your invitation to spend an entire evening with the 2020 Booker Prize-winning author and the 15-year-old title character of his heart-achingly good second novel, Young Mungo. Says Stuart’s Canadian publisher, Martha Kanya-Forstner, “Imbued with a designer’s precision and sensitive attention to detail, this fictional world feels fantastically alive – you can see and smell it. You can feel it.”

Wordfest’s Opening Night Showcase, which includes an audience Q&A and book signing, will be hosted by 2021 Scotiabank Giller-Prize winner Omar El Akkad (we know – lucky Calgary!). Please join us starting at 6 p.m. to raise a glass to the authors, Penguin Random House Canada, Owl’s Nest Books (the official Imaginairium bookseller), and each other. We’re coming alive again, with glorious star power and ever more grateful for the gift of great writing.

This event is part of Wordfest’s Imaginairium festival, Sept. 29 – Oct. 6, 2022. Connect with 60+ of the world’s most generous writers, thinkers, activators and inspirers, gathered just for you in Calgary, Canada. For more info: wordfest.com
