Photos and Highlights from Yann Martel

In the lobby of the Calgary Public Library downtown, you’ll find a 100,000 brick, eight foot long Lego model of the New Central Library. The model gives a very full idea of what the new building will look like. On closer inspection, you’ll find many famous patrons inside, including Darth Vader and a Stormtrooper (driving a car), Spider-Man, Ninja Turtles, the cast of the Simpsons, and even His Worship Naheed Nenshi.

And now a miniature figurine of Yann Martel, absorbed in a copy of Life of Pi, stands on the front steps of the new model. The author himself had the honour of placing it in the display during his visit to Calgary for a special Wordfest event on April 15, 2016, presented in partnership with the Calgary Public Library and Owl’s Nest books.
