Rob Mabee is perhaps best known as one of Calgary’s quintessential “Art Gallery-Guys” with over 25 years in some of the city’s commercial galleries, arts hubs and cultural landmarks.
With a keen eye for emerging talent, Mabee’s gallery business, Axis Contemporary Art, launched successful careers for many new artists. He also provided strategic commercial leasing to create Axis’s home, Art Central, a curated multi-tenant mix of arts businesses restaurants and shops. Merging the worlds of culture and community with marketing, he later pivoted his career to work with a Toronto media and brand firm on campaigns for a diverse collection of clients including UNICEF Canada and Giorgio Armani.
Mabee was cited by Avenue magazine as the local expert in how to gracefully enter and exit a party conversation and considers among his career highlights being interviewed in his bathtub by an Andy Warhol impersonator. He lives in Calgary where he manages the family business of his partner, Canadian Olympian Mark Tewksbury, in all things administrative, creative, and, true to his roots, decorative!
